Summer homework for Algebra 2 students: Terrence Howard's claims

In this interview, Terrence makes some claims about algebra that have lit up the Internet: watch for yourself.

As homework, I’d like you to carefully write down the calculator exercise he walks the two people through, step by step, as Terrence discusses it. Once you have done that, examine what you have written. There are two perspectives through which to examine what is said:

  1. Properties of polynomials.

  2. Rules of exponents.

Both of these were likely covered in your Algebra 2 class.

Do you see what’s being said? Is it new? Is it an undiscovered secret? A lie? Was your Algebra 2 teacher just a sucker?

Leave your comments below. I would love to hear your thoughts. I will post a follow-up to this post with mine.
